Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic says that his club are yet to decide whether to sign Joao Cancelo on a permanent basis from Manchester City.

Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has revealed that his club are yet to decide whether to sign Joao Cancelo on a permanent basis during this summer's transfer window.

The 28-year-old was allowed to leave Manchester City on loan in January, with Bayern securing his services on a deal until the end of the campaign.

The Bundesliga champions have the option to sign Cancelo permanently this summer, with the club having to part with €70m (£61.5m) if they want to secure his services on a long-term basis.

Salihamidzic has branded the Portugal international "a top player" and has said that Bayern are "glad" to have the defender at the club.

However, Der FCB, who are locked in a battle with Borussia Dortmund for the Bundesliga title, are yet to decide whether to activate the buy option in the agreement with Man City.

"Cancelo is a top player, technically a pleasure for the eyes. We're glad we have him. €70m (£61.5m) buy option? We haven't decided anything yet. We'll do that after the end of the season," Salihamidzic told Abendzeitung.

Cancelo has made 19 appearances for Bayern since his arrival, scoring once and providing six assists in the process.

The Portuguese has played the full 90 minutes in each of the German side's last four league games, and he provided an assist in Saturday's 6-0 win over Schalke 04.

Man City are believed to be keen to move the defender on this summer due to his alleged strained relationship with Citizens head coach Pep Guardiola.

Arsenal are said to be interested in signing the full-back this summer, although it remains to be seen whether Man City are prepared to let another one of their players move to the Emirates Stadium.

Barcelona, meanwhile, are being heavily linked with the Portuguese's services ahead of the upcoming market.

A recent report claimed that Cancelo's agent Jorge Mendes had been in contact with the Catalan giants to discuss a possible move at the end of the campaign.

The defender has featured on 154 occasions for Man City in all competitions since arriving from Juventus in the summer of 2019, contributing nine goals and 22 assists in the process.
