Danniella Westbrook claims to be in talks about making a fresh comeback on EastEnders.

Danniella Westbrook is reportedly in talks for a new EastEnders comeback as Sam Mitchell.

The 46-year-old has played the character - sister of Phil and Grant and daughter of Peggy - on and off since 1990 and was most recently seen in 2016 in a cameo appearance for Peggy's funeral.

Between 2002 and 2005 the character was recast as Westbrook battled a severe cocaine addiction that left her without a nasal septum, but now she is clean and sober and keen to make a Walford return.

"I think I will go back," Westbrook told the Daily Star. "Someone is talking to me at the minute about a return.

"It's my 30-year anniversary since the day I joined the show. I'm a different person today, a very different person.

"I think the show is missing people to play a matriarch. When I joined there was Pauline, Pat, Peggy - all them older characters.

"Sharon has only got so many people to play against now. You've got Sharon and Kathy - and her and Sam have a lot of history.

"I want to go back to work. I want to go back to EastEnders even if it's just for three months just to round something off for me."

Westbrook's comments come weeks after senior executive producer Kate Oates revealed that the soap will be welcoming back a former character this Christmas.
