Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly considering a move for Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope in order to provide more competition for Hugo Lloris.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly considering a move for Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope.

Pope enjoyed a breakthrough season for the Clarets last term, inheriting the gloves from the injured Tom Heaton early in the campaign and going on to earn a place in England's World Cup squad as a result of his fine form.

However, the 26-year-old has not featured since suffering a dislocated shoulder in a Europa League qualifier in July and faces stiff competition to win his place back when he does return.

Burnley currently have two other England international goalkeepers in the squad, with Joe Hart and Heaton likely to be ahead of Pope in the pecking order, while Anders Lindegaard is also on the books.

The Mirror reports that Spurs could look to prise Pope away from Turf Moor if he is unable to win his place back as they look to provide more competition for current number one Hugo Lloris.

Lloris's form has been questioned so far this season, while current back-up keeper Michel Vorm is now 35 and in the final year of his contract at the club.

Third-choice goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga has also featured this season, but manager Mauricio Pochettino is understood to favour bringing in a new player rather than moving him up the pecking order.
