How Spain could line up against Norway

Sports Mole looks at how Spain could line up in Saturday's Euro 2020 qualifier with Norway.

Spain will begin their qualification campaign for Euro 2020 with a home game against Norway on Saturday night.

La Roja are three-time winners of the European Championships - including back-to-back titles in 2008 and 2012 - but they were eliminated from the 2016 competition in the round of 16.

There is no getting away from the fact that it has been a disappointing few years for Spain; they exited the 2014 World Cup in the group stage before being knocked out of last year's World Cup in the round of 16. The likes of Andres Iniesta, David Silva and Gerard Pique can no longer be called upon, which would hurt any side.

It is a new era for this brilliant European nation and head coach Luis Enrique made some big decisions in his latest squad, leaving out the likes of Isco, Saul Niguez and Koke.

There is still plenty of experience in the shape of Sergio Ramos, Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets and Jesus Navas, but Sergi Gomez, Sergio Canales and Jaime Mata will all be looking to win their first caps.

Here, Sports Mole has taken a look at how Spain could line up this weekend.

POSS SPAIN XI vs. NOR

Napoli's Fabian Ruiz had been included in the squad for the first time, but the 22-year-old was forced to withdraw after coming down with an illness ahead of this weekend's clash.

The midfield is perhaps the most difficult area to predict; Busquets is a definite starter, with the likes of Canales, Dani Ceballos and Dani Parejo battling for the other two positions in the first XI.

David de Gea, Alba, Ramos and Sergi Roberto are certain starters, while there could be a spot in defence for Inigo Martinez, but Mario Hermoso is another option at centre-back.

Alvaro Morata is the second-highest leading scorer in the squad with 13 goals and should lead the line with support from Rodrigo and Iker Muniain, with Marco Asensio, who has just one La Roja goal to his name, struggling for Real Madrid this season.
