A report claims that David de Gea will not put pen to paper on the £350,000-a-week deal being offered to him by Manchester United as he is holding out for £500,000.

Manchester United's contract standoff with David de Gea will reportedly drag on into the summer as the goalkeeper is refusing to budge on his wage demands.

The Red Devils have been desperately trying to tie down the Spain international, widely considered to be the best goalkeeper in the world, for the best part of a year.

De Gea was due to be out of contract at the end of the season, but United have taken up the option to extend his deal by a further 12 months, giving them extra time to negotiate a longer-term deal.

According to The Mirror, the club remain in talks with the 28-year-old's representatives but there is no sign of a breakthrough.

United are supposedly willing to make De Gea the best-paid goalkeeper in the world with a £350,000-a-week deal, a significant rise on his current £200,000-a-week salary, but he is holding out for closer to £500,000 to match the wage earned by teammate Alexis Sanchez.

Real Madrid are said to be closely monitoring developments as they seek a new long-term number one, with doubts raised over the quality of summer 2018 arrival Thibaut Courtois, who was dropped for Zinedine Zidane's first game back in charge.
