Chelsea will consider bringing former assistant Steve Holland back to Stamford Bridge on a caretaker basis as a replacement for Maurizio Sarri, according to a report.

England assistant manager Steve Holland is reportedly a leading contender to take over as Chelsea manager should Maurizio Sarri be sacked.

Sarri's job is under threat following a poor run of form that has seen the Blues exit the FA Cup and drop out of the Premier League's top four.

The Italian was only appointed in July but he may supposedly be on his way out as early as Sunday if Chelsea suffer defeat to Manchester City in the EFL Cup final.

According to the Daily Mail, one of the top choices to succeed Sarri is England coach Holland, who has previously worked with Chelsea as an assistant manager.

Holland is said to be seen by Blues bosses as an ideal option to steady the ship on a caretaker basis until the end of the season and possibly beyond.

The 48-year-old spent eight years with Chelsea and has been in attendance for some of their recent matches.

However, the West London outfit will first have to convince the Football Association to let Holland balance two jobs, as he has a long-term contract with the England national side.
