Result: England beaten by Australia in semi-finals

England are beaten by Australia in the semi-final of the men's beach volleyball at the Commonwealth Games, condemning them to a place in the bronze-medal match.

England have been condemned to the bronze-medal match in the men's beach volleyball at the 2018 Commonwealth Games courtesy of defeat to hosts Australia in their semi-final.

The English duo of Chris Gregory and Jake Sheaf had beaten Scotland in their quarter-final to set up the last-four showdown with the Aussies, who began the tournament as joint-favourites to claim the gold.

Australia went through the group stages and quarter-final without dropping a set, and they maintained that record in the last four as they made light work of England.

The Aussie pair of Christopher McHugh and Damien Schumann wrapped up the win within 40 minutes to book their place in the final, overcoming the English team 21-13 21-16.

The hosts will now take on either New Zealand or Canada in the final, whereas England will play the loser of that semi-final in the bronze-medal match.
