Record-breaker Stephen Curry's season so far for the Golden State Warriors

Curry has scored five or more three-pointers in eight of his nine games so far.

Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry may have seen his NBA record for the most three-pointers in a single game beaten by team-mate Klay Thompson this week, but he has started the season in imperious form.

The 30-year-old has helped Steve Kerr's side to three NBA Finals wins in the last four years and Wednesday night's victory over the New Orleans Pelicans moved them 8-1 this time around.

Curry is currently 53 per cent from the three-point line this season having made five or more in eight of the Warriors' nine games so far.

Here, Press Association Sport looks at his performances game-by-game.

Golden State Warriors 108 Oklahoma City Thunder 100 – 32 points

It was a nervy start to the season for the Warriors at the Oracle Arena but Curry led the scoring, shooting 11 from 20 with five threes.

Utah Jazz 123 Golden State Warriors 124 – 31 points

Curry managed over 30 points for the second-successive game – scoring five from nine three-point attempts – as he linked up well with Kevin Durant, who top-scored with 38.

Denver Nuggets 100 Golden State Warriors 98 – 30 points

Curry's 30 points were not enough as the Warriors lost for the first time. Splash Brother Thompson and Durant struggled from three-point range, while Curry, who scored 11 of his points in a lively fourth quarter, managed six from 16 attempts.

Golden State Warriors 123 Phoenix Suns 103 – 29 points

Curry broke his own record for the number of threes through the first four games of the season. Six against the Suns took him to 22 for the campaign, beating his own mark from 2015/16.

Golden State Warriors 144 Washington Wizards 122 – 51 points

It was a magical display from Curry against the Wizards as he missed his career-high total by just three points. It was the most points Curry has ever scored in Oakland and he had all 51 by the end of the third quarter. Curry was successful with 15 of 24 shooting attempts and scored 11 of 16 from three-point range.

New York Knicks 100 Golden State Warriors 128 – 29 points

Durant overshadowed his team-mate in this one, scoring 25 of his 41 points in the fourth quarter, but Curry still managed 29 points, six of which were threes.

Brooklyn Nets 114 Golden State Warriors 120 – 35 points

Curry became the first player to make five or more three-pointers in seven consecutive games as he led the scoring for the Warriors once again. He surpassed George McCloud's record of six matches.

Chicago Bulls 124 Golden State Warriors 149 – 23 points

This night belonged to Thompson as he landed 14 three-pointers to break Curry's record, scoring 52 points in another crushing win. Curry, who was actively seeking out his team-mate as he closed in on the record, managed 23 from just nine shot attempts but his record run came to an end as he scored two threes from four attempts. After the game, Curry told reporters: "Records are obviously meant to be broken. I'm just happy it's my team-mate and nobody else. And I got to witness it in person."

Golden State Warriors 131 New Orleans Pelicans 121 – 37 points

Curry finished with seven threes to take his total for the season to 48. He is currently on course to smash his own record for the most three-pointers in an NBA season, netting 402 in 2015/16. When asked for his thoughts on his start, he told reporters: "It's just about having confidence and putting the work in, the reps and feeling comfortable out there. I've always said I want to continue to try and improve my shooting, get more efficient, and this is obviously a good start to that, but I've got to sustain it and stick to the programme of what I've been doing."
