Result: Dutch archer Sjef van den Berg misses out on perfect score

Sjef van den Berg comes close to a perfect score in the men's individual archery 1/32 eliminations at Baku, but misses out with his final arrow.

Sjef van den Berg came within inches of a perfect score of 90 in the men's individual 1/32 eliminations round, but missed out with his final arrow.

The 20-year-old scored eight consecutive perfect 10s, before only finding an eight with his final effort in his victory over Latvia's Eduards Lapsins.

"I think I put too much pressure on myself to shoot the perfect score in all three ends. I did it in training before and I thought 'Well, I might as well do it in the competition'. It didn't quite work out as I planned it to," Van den Berg told reporters.

"I knew the eight would be enough (for the 6-0 win) because my coach told me the first arrow was definitely in [for a 10]. So it was a mix of maybe too much pressure on myself and maybe not enough pressure from my opponent."

Van den Berg has already won a bronze medal in Baku as part of the Dutch side in the men's team event.
