Water polo venue could be changed at 2016 Olympic Games

Construction delays could result in a change of venue for water polo at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

The venue for water polo at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro could be changed with construction work continuing to be delayed.

Despite only 14 months remaining until the Games, rebuilding work is yet to begin on the Julio Delamare Aquatic Park and Mario Andrada, the director of communications at the local organising committee, has revealed that alterations to the schedule could be made.

Andrada told Reuters: "If we hear from the state government that it's not going to be ready, we'll have to move," before adding that a decision is expected to be made "within the next few weeks".

Water polo is scheduled to take place in the North of Rio, but further delays could see the event moved to the Olympic Park, which is situated in the South-West.
