Alexander Gustafsson's trainer Eric del Fierro insists that the Swede has what it takes to beat Jon Jones if he gets a rematch for the UFC light heavyweight title.

Alexander Gustafsson would love a rematch with UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones following their titanic tussle last weekend, according to his trainer Eric del Fierro.

Gustafsson gave Jones the sternest test of his career at UFC 165 in Toronto on Saturday night, just coming out on the losing end of a unanimous decision after five brutal rounds.

Del Fierro believes that the Swede deserves another title opportunity, while admitting that he felt a quiet fifth round probably cost Gustafsson the chance to become Europe's first UFC champion.

He told MMA Junkie: "The whole fight now, looking back, is almost a blur. I think the championship rounds is what cost us. It was a super close fight, but we truly needed that fifth round to take the belt from him.

"I know Alex has what it takes to beat him, so I know he would love to have the rematch, as well. As a challenger, you can't scream rematch. But yeah, it would be great. Alex deserves it. He put on a great performance."

Both men have been given a 60-day medical suspension following their efforts at the Air Canada Center, with 'Bones' leaving the building on a stretcher after narrowly retaining his title.
