Thomas Bishop confident Team England will bounce back at Commonwealth Games

Team England triathlete Thomas Bishop is confident that his side can bounce back from a disappointing men's race when they compete in the team relay at the Commonwealths.

Team England's Thomas Bishop has backed the triathletes to respond to a disappointing performance in the men's race when they take part in the team relay on Saturday.

Two of England's biggest medal hopes - Alistair and Jonny Brownlee - could only manage seventh and 10th-place finishes respectively during the triathlon at the Commonwealth Games this afternoon, while Bishop came home in 19th place after crashing on the cycling leg.

The women fared better in their race earlier in the day, with all three of their participants finishing in the top six, including a silver medal for Jess Learmonth.

The squad of six must now be cut down to four for Saturday's mixed team relay, and Bishop is confident that they can still pick up a gold medal on the Gold Coast.

"Yeah, hopefully. I'm still delighted for some of the guys that ran the race today. So I'll bounce back and if I don't race in the relay, I've a couple of races lined up when I get back," he told Sports Mole.

England are the defending champions in the team relay, having won the inaugural edition of the event in Glasgow four years ago.
