Roger Federer eases past Roberto Bautista Agut in straight sets to book his place in the quarter-finals of Wimbledon where he will face Gilles Simon.

Roger Federer has cruised into the quarter-finals at Wimbledon by defeating Roberto Bautista Agut in straight sets 6-2 6-2 6-3 this evening.

The number two seed started the match in imperious form as he managed to find rhythm on his groundstrokes immediately, putting the Spaniard's serve under severe pressure.

Federer found the break in the fifth game and then again in the seventh before he served out to take the first set 6-2.

The 33-year-old maintained his onslaught as he broke again in the first game of the second and was dominant on his own serve to take a healthy lead before Bautista Agut sustained an injury as a result of a fall.

The number 20 seed required treatment from the trainer which brought a delay in the match, but it did not affect Federer's focus as he broke the Spaniard again before serving out for a 6-2 win.

Federer continued his fine form in the final set and he clinched two further breaks, which was enough to secure the set 6-3 and his place in the quarter-finals.

The number two seed will now face Gilles Simon in the last eight of the competition.
