American John Isner is through to the third round at Wimbledon after beating Australia's Matthew Ebden 6-2 7-6 6-4.

Seventeenth seed John Isner has booked his place in the third round at Wimbledon after beating Australia's Matthew Ebden in straight sets.

The American shared the first four games of the match with his unseeded opponent, but soon took charge of the opener, rattling off four games in quick succession to seal the set.

Ebden provided more resistance in the second, coming from a break down to force a tie-break, but it was Isner who came out on top, taking the closely-fought breaker 10-8.

Ebden fought hard to try to stay with Isner during the third, but he missed a run of first serves while serving to stay in the match, allowing Isner to secure the straight-sets win.

Play was briefly halted midway through the match when a ball boy became ill in the hot conditions and had to be stretchered from the court.

Isner will face the winner of the match between US Open champion Marin Cilic and Ricardas Berankis.
