Rafael Nadal has been knocked out of the Shanghai Masters in the second round following a straight-sets defeat to Viktor Troicki.

The 14-time Grand Slam champion, who lost in the quarter-finals of the China Open last week, fell 6-3 7-6(3) to Troicki.

Nadal saved two break points after his opening service game was challenged, but his Serbian opponent earned a double break to take the first set in 37 minutes.

Games went by the way of serve in the second set, and Nadal appeared to turn the tie in his favour when he saved match point while 4-5 down, but Troicki sealed the tie-break 7-3 to book himself a spot in the next round.
