Roberto Bautista Agut has advanced through to the Rogers Cup second round with a comfortable win over Janko Tipsarevic.
Tipsarevic is attempting to revive his career after a lengthy period on the sidelines, but he was unable to take advantage of being granted entry into the Masters Series tournament as he bowed out to the world number 20.
One break of serve was enough for Bautista Agut to wrap up a convincing 6-3 6-4 win in one hour and 10 minutes.
The Spaniard will now play defending champion Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the next round on Wednesday.
