British number two Kyle Edmund is through to the last 16 of the China Open with a straight-sets win over Guillermo Garcia-Lopez.

Kyle Edmund has defeated Spain's Guillermo Garcia-Lopez to progress through to the second round of the China Open.

The British number two is looking to end 2016 in the world's top 50 and after coming through qualifying at the weekend, he improved his hopes with victory over his experienced opponent.

The 21-year-old had lost their previous encounter on clay but he overpowered the 33-year-old and broke serve three times on the way to a 6-3 6-2 win.

Edmund will face seventh seed Roberto Bautista Agut in the last 16, with Andy Murray a potential quarter-final opponent should the world number two come through his first couple of matches in Beijing.
