Johanna Konta has booked her place in the second round of the Hong Kong Open courtesy of a straight-sets victory over compatriot Naomi Broady this afternoon.

The British number one took less than 80 minutes to see off Broady 6-2 6-2 and continue her fine form to make it through the first round.

Konta, fresh from becoming the first British woman to make it into the WTA top 10 since 1984, could not have made a better start to the match when she broke in the very first game.

A mammoth fifth game saw Konta clinch another crucial break to move into a 4-1 lead, and Broady had no response against the serve, failing to earn a single break point as Konta eased to the 6-2 win.

It was a similar story in the second set too as breaks for Konta in the first and fifth games proved decisive, although this time the world number nine did have one break point to save along the way.

Konta will now face Wang Qiang in the second round.
