Richard Gasquet successfully defends the Open Sud de France title with a straight-sets win over Paul-Henri Mathieu.

Richard Gasquet has recorded a straight-sets win over Paul-Henri Mathieu to win the Open Sud de France for a second successive year.

The 29-year-old was forced to miss the Australian Open through injury, but he responded in the best possible way with a 7-5 6-4 victory over his French compatriot.

Gasquet, the world number 10, started slowly against his veteran opponent but he managed to break serve three times on the way to taking the opening set.

Mathieu competed well in the second but one break of serve proved enough for Gasquet to emerge victorious at the event for the third time in four years.
