Kyle Edmund has recorded a straight-sets win over Jan-Lennard Struff to reach the semi-finals of the Austrian Open.

Twelve months ago, Edmund was forced to withdraw through injury, but the British number three continues to enjoy contrasting fortunes in Vienna after storming to a 6-2 7-5 triumph over Struff.

The opening set was one-sided with Edmund registering two breaks of serve in the opening six games, and although Struff saved three set points, the German was powerless to prevent the 22-year-old from moving closer to the last four.

Edmund effortlessly established a break advantage in the second, but nerves set in when serving for one of the biggest victories of his career and Struff had the momentum at 5-5.

However, Edmund would break straight back before serving out the match in one hour and 14 minutes, earning a showdown with either Richard Gasquet or Lucas Pouille.

In terms of ranking points, Friday's success represents one of the most notable wins of Edmund's time in the sport, and the Beverley-based hitter can move closer to a return to the world's top 40 with another victory on Saturday.
