British number three Kyle Edmund holds his nerve to beat Dennis Novak in three tie-break sets in the Austrian Open second round.

Kyle Edmund has reached the Austrian Open quarter-finals with a thrilling three-set victory over home favourite Dennis Novak.

The British number three had appeared to be cruising through to the last eight after establishing a set and a break advantage, but the 22-year-old eventually had to see off a valiant comeback from Novak before winning 7-6 6-7 7-6.

During the opening set, Edmund was only able to take one of his seven break-point opportunities, but the world number 63 stormed through a tie-break to take it 7-2.

Edmund went 3-0 up in the second but Novak - who had progressed through the qualifying rounds to reach this stage of the competition - rallied before edging through a tight tie-break by a 7-5 scoreline.

The decider was dominated by serve, with Novak missing out with the only break-point chance, and Edmund capitalised to win the deciding tie-break 7-3.

Edmund will now play Germany's Jan-Lennard Struff, who defeated fourth seed Albert Ramos-Vinolas.
