Richard Gasquet is through to the quarter-finals of the Paris Masters after Kei Nishikori retires with an injury.

Richard Gasquet will fight for a place in the semi-finals of the Paris Masters after being sent into the final eight due to his opponent Kei Nishikori retiring.

The home favourite had a tough opening set and came close to losing serve when Nishikori created three break points, but failed to take any of them.

The set was eventually decided in a tie-break, which Gasquet edged 7-3 before racing to a 2-1 lead in the second set.

The Frenchman broke serve once again, but it soon became clear that Nishikori was struggling with an injury, and the Japanese player opted to give up.

Gasquet will face Andy Murray in the quarter-finals.
