Roger Federer is knocked out of the Paris Masters in three sets by John Isner in the third round of the competition.

Seventeen-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer has been knocked out of the Paris Masters at the third-round stage by John Isner.

The powerful American managed to seal a 7-6(3) 3-6 7-6(5) this afternoon, but it was a hard-fought battle.

There were three break points between them in the first set, but none of them was converted, meaning that a tie-break was required to separate the pair.

Isner managed to edge it 7-3 by breaking Federer's serve twice, but the Swiss managed to bounce back in the second set to go a break up and level the match.

The third set was once again a tense affair as another tie-break was needed after none of the three break points created was converted.

Isner lost serve in the breaker, but breaking Federer twice was enough to wrap up the contest.
