British hopeful Aljaz Bedene moves into the second round of the Paris Masters with a straight-sets win over Marcel Granollers.

British hopeful Aljaz Bedene has progressed into the second round of the Paris Masters with a 7-5 7-6(4) victory over Marcel Granollers.

It was difficult to separate the two competitors in the first set as just one break point apiece was created in 11 games.

The deadlock was finally broken by Bedene as he broke to claim a one-set lead on French soil.

After taking the set, the Brit still struggled to break down Granollers, who was strong on serve but in turn was unable to come close to a break point in the first seven games.

Bedene had his chances to break, particularly in the eighth game when he created five break points, but failed to convert any of them.

A tie-break was needed to separate the two competitors, and Bedene managed to break twice to claim the set and the victory.
