Roger Federer has booked his place in the quarter-finals of the Monte Carlo Masters with a straight-sets win over Roberto Bautista Agut.

The world number three, who has never won the tournament, eased to a 6-2 success in the first set with a pair of breaks against Bautista Agut.

The Spaniard failed to earn a single break point on the Federer serve and although the second set was tighter, Federer came through 6-26-4 to win in just over an hour.

Federer will face a Frenchman in the last eight, with eighth seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga up against compatriot Lucas Pouille shortly.
