The only downside for Johanna Konta to her memorable run in Paris has been being away from her dog, a dachshund named Bono, after the lead singer of her favourite band U2.
“I got a video of him listening to my on-court interview, and I swear he recognises my voice because you can see his little ears go up,” gushed Konta. “Honestly, it’s so adorable.”
She is planning to get Bono a puppy passport so he can accompany her to Roland Garros next year.
Junior drought
Given all the investment in British tennis, it is somewhat embarrassing that there is not a single representative in the junior boys’ or girls’ singles this year. The caveat is that Wimbledon finalist Jack Draper, Anton Matusevich and Emma Raducanu, who could have entered, have been concentrating on senior tennis.
