Taekwondo federation to ditch 'WTF' acronym

The World Taekwondo Federation intends to lessen its use of the 'WTF' acronym over confusion with the text slang.

The World Taekwondo Federation has revealed plans to lessen its use of the acronym 'WTF' over confusion with the vulgar text slang phrase.

According to insidethegames.biz, WTF will instead begin referring to itself as just 'World Taekwondo' for all marketing and commercial purposes from 2016.

WTF secretary general Hoss Rafaty told the website that there were "no plans" to officially change the name of the sport's governing body and they will still hold worldwide rights to use of the WTF name.

The issue was first discussed at a WTF Extraordinary Council meeting this month and will be formally debated next year.
