Result: Team GB's Siobhan-Marie O'Connor wins silver in 200m individual medley

Great Britain's Siobhan-Marie O'Connor wins silver in the 200m individual medley as she just misses out to Katinka Hosszu.

Great Britain's Siobhan-Marie O'Connor has produced a huge personal best to claim silver in the women's 200m individual medley at the Olympic Games.

O'Connor was tipped as the main challenger to Hungary's Katinka Hosszu, and the pre-race prediction proved to be correct as the pair powered ahead of the field.

Hosszu held an advantage of 0.77 seconds after her favoured backstroke but O'Connor was still with her when they touched the wall at the third-quarter mark.

O'Connor closed on Hosszu as they both approached the wall but the Hungarian held on to set a new Olympic record of 2:06.58.

Twenty-year-old O'Connor finished just three tenths of a second adrift of Hosszu but the time represented a new British record by 0.69 seconds.

USA's Madeline Dirado secured the bronze medal but she finished almost two seconds behind O'Connor.
