Result: Sweden's Jennie Johansson claims 50m breaststroke gold

Sweden's Jennie Johansson wins gold in the 50m breaststroke as world record holder Ruta Meilutyte misses out on the medals at the World Swimming Championships.

Sweden's Jennie Johansson has claimed a surprise win in the 50m breaststroke final at the World Swimming Championships as pre-race favourite Ruta Meilutyte missed out on the medals.

The Lithuanian, who holds the world record in this event, had been quickest in the heats and semi-finals, but could only manage fourth in the final.

Johanssson, who won the silver medal in the same event at the European Championships last year, stopped the clock first in a time of 30.05, just 0.06 ahead of Jamaica's Alia Atkinson, who takes the silver.

Defending champion Yuliya Efimova secured the final spot on the podium ahead of Meilutyte, while just over one second separated the entire field.
