Nick Matthew desperate to win gold at last Commonwealth Games

Three-time gold medallist Nick Matthew headlines Team England's group of squash players travelling to the Gold Coast for April's Commonwealth Games.

Nick Matthew has promised to give his all to win a fourth gold medal for England as he participates in the Commonwealth Games for the final time.

The 37-year-old is one of nine squash players named as part of England's travelling party for Gold Coast 2018, as they attempt to build on the success of four years ago when topping the event's medal table.

Matthew has competed in the quadrennial competition on three previous occasions, winning three gold medals and a silver, which he intends to add to Down Under in seven weeks' time.

"I'm delighted to be selected to compete at the 2018 Commonwealth Games," he said. "This will be my fourth Commonwealth Games and the three gold medals that I won in Delhi and Glasgow are amongst the highlights of my career.

"For a while, I didn't think I'd make it to my fourth Games so it's fantastic to be feeling in really great shape and ready to head to the Gold Coast.

"When I announced that this year would be my final playing season, I said that winning a fourth gold medal would be at the top of my list of goals, so I'll be doing everything I can to get that gold for Team England."

Team England have won at least one gold medal in squash at every Commonwealth Games where the sport has been on the programme.
