Uncapped England back row Sam Jones emerges as a doubt for the autumn internationals after suffering an ankle injury in training.

Sam Jones has emerged as a doubt for England's autumn internationals after suffering an ankle injury during training on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old was one of seven uncapped players included in Eddie Jones's 37-man training squad and was expected to make his debut in place of the injured James Haskell.

However, the Wasps back-row is now a doubt for the matches against South Africa, Fiji, Argentina and Australia at Twickenham in November and December.

"Jones will undergo further examinations to diagnose the extent of the injury," the Rugby Football Union said in a statement.

Jones's injury could improve Leicester Tigers back-row Mike Williams's chances of starting at openside.
