Result: Warrington Wolves reach Challenge Cup semi-finals despite brave Leigh Centurions show

Super League side Warrington Wolves beat Championship leaders Leigh Centurions 34-24 to reach the Challenge Cup semi-finals.

Super League side Warrington Wolves have reached the Challenge Cup semi-finals after securing a 34-24 win against Championship leaders Leigh Centurions.

Wolves drew first blood when Ashton Sims was given the freedom to cross over in the seventh minute for the first try of the afternoon, with Gareth O'Brien adding the conversion from in front of the posts.

The Centurions, however, were level just four minutes later when centre Greg Worthington touched down Ryan Brierley's grubber kick.

After Ben Currie added a second try following Ben Harrison's ball steal, the visitors responded once more through Brierley, who marauded from inside his own half to score his 22nd try of the season.

The first half ended with the visitors in the lead after Gregg McNally collected Liam Kay's measured kick and crossed over for the Centurions.

Warrington winger Kevin Penny finished off Stefan Ratchford's mazy run just after the restart, before his second in the corner gave his side an eight-point advantage.

The hosts then had O'Brien booked for a professional foul but George King's try, converted by Ben Westwood, made it 16 points without reply.

Brierley's second try gave Leigh some hope but Currie added his second to confirm that Warrington would progress to the competition's final four, despite Tom Armstrong's late consolation.

Warrington join Hull Kingston Rovers and holders Leeds Rhinos in the semi-final draw, while either St Helens or Widnes will fill the remaining last-four spot on Sunday.
