Brian McDermott: 'Late Leeds Rhinos win pleasing'

Leeds Rhinos coach Brian McDermott suggests that the manner of his side's late victory over Huddersfield Giants "was pleasing", and insists that they deserved the win.

Leeds Rhinos coach Brian McDermott has suggested that the manner of his side's victory over Huddersfield Giants on Friday evening was very pleasing.

McDermott's side secured the League Leader's Shield with a 20-16 away win in their final Super League Super 8s fixture of the season, but the Rhinos required two late tries from Tom Briscoe and Ryan Hall to claim victory.

Despite snatching the win in the last minute of the game, McDermott believes that his side deserved to take the victory.

After the match, McDermott told Sky Sports News: "It was some ending. You wonder whether you deserved to win but I have no issues with winning that game whatsoever.

"They're a tough team to play, so to finish in the fashion we have done is pleasing. We didn't play overly well but I thought we deserved it.

"I wasn't confident. We didn't have that offensive momentum. Huddersfield were just too full of energy and snuffing out everything we tried to throw at them in the second half."

Leeds will take on champions St Helens in their playoff semi-final on Thursday, October 1.
