With horse racing continuing to take place in Ireland, Sports Mole previews the card being held at Dundalk on Wednesday afternoon.

While horse racing has been brought to a halt in England due to the coronavirus, the sport continues to be staged behind closed doors in Ireland.

Although there is a lack of a "buzz" from the stands, trainers and stables are still able to make a living, with punters having the opportunity to use websites and apps to place bets.

Naturally, the situation could change, depending on whether the Irish government requires Order Of Malta medical teams to assist ambulance services.

Nevertheless, with the action set to continue at Dundalk on Wednesday afternoon, Sports Mole takes a look at the racecard.

2pm - Dundalk Stadium Handicap

The first race of the day is expected to be a competitive affair with Lequinto, Danz Gift and Zippity all short-priced with bookmakers. Having prevailed at this course last week, albeit over an extra furlong, Lequinto is a justified favourite.

Although it is unclear whether the longer distance will suit, Lequinto was leading the 12-horse field at the five-furlong point last week, and we are backing a second outing in the space of a week to work in his favour.

2.30pm - View Restaurant at Dundalk Stadium Handicap

The experienced Sharjah is the standout name in the second race. However, having gone over two years without success, odds of 7/4 do not offer any value.

With a first and a third coming in two outings, the latter over a shorter distance at this track, Cliara gets the nod with us. The majority of the rest of the field head into the contest having shown very little form.

3pm - Irishinjuredjockeys.com Handicap

The bookmakers have Long Arm and Golden Valour as the clear favourites to emerge victorious here, and we do not disagree.

Golden Valour won at this venue earlier this month, staying on well to win over the same distance. With Long Run coming off a break of 159 days, we must go with recent form.

3.30pm - Ladies Day Sunday 12th July Maiden (plus 10)

A two-horse race between Agitare and Tiger Moth looks likely in the next. Purely based on experience, we have to go with the former, who already has five top-four finishes to his name.

Tiger Moth picked up a third place in its only outing last year and although there is plenty of room for improvement, Agitare gets our vote.

4pm - Winter Series Awards Day Saturday 4th April Maiden

Many of the experienced runners in this race have had limited success, meaning that showing faith in relative newcomers could be the way to go.

Although there will be plenty of interest in Strongbowie and The Alpha Man, both of which achieved top threes on their only outing, Army Recruit may be the choice for the each-way punters after showing potential earlier in his career before changing yards.

4.30pm - Irish Stallion Farms EBF Median Auction Maiden (plus 10)

At 4/5, punters are either going to go big on Gin Blossom or deem it too much of a risk. It has been 163 days since a second was achieved at Gowran Park in October, so we are inclined to look elsewhere.

War Flight at 14/1 looks far too big. Despite a poor break on debut, third spot was still achieved, suggesting that it may be worth an each-way bet.

5pm - Easter Week Racing 15th & 19th April Handicap

The final race of the day should be the most competitive of the afternoon. Having already won at course and distance late last year, there is every chance that Dark Magic will go off as favourite.

However, having improved with each of its four races, Helen De Pourtales will also attract a lot of attention and we are backing the youngest horse in the race to come through for a first win.
