Tottenham Hotspur will not play their first official match at their new White Hart Lane home until September, rather than August, according to a report.

A delayed finish to construction on Tottenham Hotspur's new White Hart Lane home will reportedly force them to start next season with a string of away games.

The Lilywhites had hoped to move into the 61,000-capacity ground by the end of the summer but, according to The Independent, that will be pushed back until September.

With the Premier League season scheduled to start on August 11, it is suggested that Spurs will begin the campaign with three or four matches on their travels, allowing the finishing touches to be put in place.

Tottenham, who are currently playing their home fixtures at Wembley Stadium, have until mid-March to inform top-flight chiefs of any challenges they expect to face in scheduling games.

West Ham United and Liverpool have found themselves in a similar position in recent years, delaying their first home games into the second month of the campaign.
