Ex-Real Madrid and Chile centre-forward Ivan Zamorano and his wife escape serious injury from a car crash on a busy Buenos Aires road.

Neither Ivan Zamorano nor his wife Maria Albero suffered a serious injury from their car crash in Argentina earlier today.

The couple's car was turned onto its side following the collision with another vehicle on Avenida Libertador in Buenos Aires.

Zamorano, who played for Real Madrid and Inter Milan during his career, was treated for cuts and bruises by medics at the scene.

Meanwhile, his spouse was airlifted to hospital, but she has since been discharged.

"We want to thank all the people who were worried about our state of health. Despite the severity of the crash, neither us nor the other driver have suffered any serious consequences," the 48-year-old ex-Chile international said in a statement.

It is believed that the local authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the incident.
