Will Ferrell to co-own MLS franchise

Hollwood movie star Will Ferrell is named as a part-owner of new MLS franchise Los Angeles FC.

The Anchorman actor Will Ferrell has been named as an investor in a new MLS franchise based in Los Angeles.

The consortium behind Los Angeles FC, which will debut in the 2018 season, also includes Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan, Queens Park Rangers co-chairman Ruben Gnanalingam and basketball legend Magic Johnson.

"This is not a joke," Ferrell said. "I'm actually a member of this fine ownership group. I've never been part-owner of anything, though I'm still part-owner of an '84 Toyota Camry with my brother."

Following the announcement, the club's crest was released on Twitter.

Los Angeles FC is the successor side to Chivas USA, which ceased operations at the end of the 2014 season.
