Venezuelan players sacked for torturing cat

Venezuelan club Zulia sacks two players after video footage of them torturing a cat surfaces online.

Two Venezuelan players have been sacked by their club after video footage of them torturing a cat emerged.

Zulia, who play their football in the country's Primera Division, terminated the contracts of David Barreto and Eduin Quero after the clip surfaced on Instagram.

The video, which has now been removed from the social network, showed the duo pulling on the animal's limbs before throwing it out of a window.

Zulia issued a statement confirming that the two players have been "expelled" following a thorough investigation and condemning all forms of animal abuse, The Sun reports.

The club also suggested that Barreto and Quero seek psychological help, despite no longer being part of their squad.
