A spokesman for the prison where Oscar Pistorius is serving a six-year sentence for killing Reeva Steenkamp says the athlete has received treatment in hospital after suffering injuries.

Jailed South African athlete Oscar Pistorius has received treatment in hospital after suffering injuries.

The 29-year-old told officials that he hurt himself after falling out of bed, said Singabakho Nxumalo, a spokesman for the correctional services department.

Nxumalo added that, following his hospital treatment, the Paralympian medallist returned to his Pretoria prison to continue serving his sentence.

The spokesman did not provide details of the injuries, citing medical privacy concerns, but one local report suggested that he had injuries to his wrists and that blades were found in his prison cell.

Pistorius is serving a six-year sentence for killing girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.
