Petra Kvitova has suffered knife wounds to her hand after she was attacked during a burglary at her home in the Czech Republic.

The two-time Wimbledon champion sustained the injury to tendons in her left hand - her dominant hand in tennis - during the incident which occurred on Tuesday morning.

A spokesman for the 26-year-old has said that the injuries sustained by Kvitova are "not life-threatening" but she is receiving medical attention from doctors.

The incident comes just hours after Kvitova announced that she would not be competing at the Hopman Cup next month because of a foot injury.

That injury - as well as the one sustained during the attempted burglary - has left her participation in January's Australian Open in doubt.
