Newcastle United accept Football Association charge over betting logo

Newcastle United accept a charge for breaching the Football Association's kit and advertising regulations with the use of a betting company logo on the club's U18s kits.

Newcastle United have accepted a Football Association charge for bearing the logo of a betting company on the club's Under-18s shirts.

The Magpies breached the FA's kit and advertising regulations that prohibits the use of alcohol and gambling-related sponsorship on U18s kits.

After being charged for carrying the logo of China-based online gaming firm FUN88, United have decided against appealing the decision.

An FA statement earlier this month read: "In the case of a team comprising players all under the age of 18 years on 31 August in the current season, the appearance on or incorporation in any item of clothing of any reference whatsoever to a product, service or other activity which is considered by the Association as detrimental to the welfare, health or general interest of young persons, or is otherwise considered inappropriate, having regard to the age of the players, is prohibited."

FUN88 replaced loans company Wonga as Newcastle's leading sponsor last summer in an £8m deal.
