Two men are charged after a banner labelled 'murderers' was unfurled above a motorway ahead of the Europa League clash between Liverpool and Manchester United.

Two men have reportedly been charged with a public order offence after a banner with the word 'murderers' written on it was unfurled above a motorway prior to Liverpool's Europa League tie against Manchester United last month.

The message was displayed above the M602, which is usually taken by Liverpool supporters travelling to Old Trafford for a match.

The banner, which also displayed the date April 15, 1989 - when 96 Liverpool fans died at Hillsborough stadium prior to an FA Cup semi-final - was spotted in the build-up to the Europa League last-16 second leg.

According to the Daily Mail, a 24-year-old man and a 20-year-old male from Oldham and Manchester respectively have been charged by police and will appear in court on April 25.

The match itself resulted in Liverpool progressing into the quarter-finals at the expense of United.
