The Sir Alex Ferguson Way sign outside of Old Trafford mysteriously disappears.

A road sign outside of Manchester United's Old Trafford stadium bearing Sir Alex Ferguson's name has gone missing.

The Sir Alex Ferguson Way sign, installed by Trafford Borough Council to commemorate the former Red Devils boss in 2013, disappeared on Tuesday morning.

According to The Mirror, it is unclear whether builders who were carrying out work nearby took the sign down for safety reasons, or if it was stolen.

Ferguson suffered a brain haemorrhage over the weekend and was rushed to hospital for emergency treatment.

The latest reports suggest that the procedure was a success, with the 76-year-old now conscious and speaking to his family in intensive care.
