Labour leader Ed Miliband 'urged to recruit Sir Alex Ferguson for campaign'

Labour Party leader Ed Miliband is reportedly urged to recruit Sir Alex Ferguson for his 2015 electoral campaign.

Labour Party leader Ed Miliband has reportedly been urged to call on former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson for his 2015 electoral campaign.

The 72-year-old, who retired from management at the end of last season, previously worked alongside former Prime Minister Tony Blair ahead of his victory in 1997.

According to the Daily Mail, Bassetlaw MP John Mann wrote in a letter to Miliband: "Having retired this year, as a phenomenally successful manager, Sir Alex is globally recognised as a superb leader.

"In addition to the undoubted morale boost, Sir Alex would shape and inspire a new generation of Labour Party activists, and provide unrivalled experience of management and long-term planning."

Last year reports claimed that Ferguson, who remains a director at Old Trafford, rejected a Labour peerage.
