A man has been charged with attempted burglary after allegedly trying to break into the £6m Cheshire mansion of Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney.
Robert Leslie McNamara, 24, of Newby Farm Crescent, Scalby, Scarborough, has been accused of attempting to enter the property at around 9pm on August 3, according to BBC News.
Rooney, his wife Coleen and three sons Kai, Klay and Kit were not in the house at the time because the United striker was playing against Everton in his testimonial match at Old Trafford.
It was reported at the time of the attempted burglary that a helicopter and three police cars arrived at the scene minutes after the alarm system was triggered.
Mr McNamara will appear at South and East Cheshire Magistrates' Court later today.
