Sir Alex Ferguson is released from intensive care and will continue his rehabilitation as an inpatient.

Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been released from intensive care.

The 76-year-old underwent emergency surgery after suffering a brain haemorrhage on May 5.

Many players and managers sent their thoughts and prayers to his family, but Ferguson's condition has since improved.

"Sir Alex Ferguson no longer needs intensive care and will continue rehabilitation as an inpatient," Manchester United stated on their website.

"His family have been overwhelmed by the level of support and good wishes but continue to request privacy as this will be vital during this next stage of recovery."

The Scotsman coached United for 27 years, before stepping down in 2013.
