Everton defender Mason Holgate deletes his Twitter account after social media users allegedly discover homophobic posts made under his name.

Everton defender Mason Holgate appears to have deleted his Twitter account after being accused of making a number of homophobic posts.

On Friday night, Holgate was in the headlines after being involved in an incident with Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino, who has been accused on making a racist slur towards Holgate after an exchange in the FA Cup tie between the two clubs.

However, according to The Sun, the 21-year-old has decided to delete his Twitter account after social media users allegedly discovered homophobic posts made from his account.

The report highlights three posts - two which were made in 2012 and another in 2013 - which were sent to people known to Holgate.

Everton are said to be assessing Holgate's decision to delete his account, with the player now a regular first-team member at the Merseyside club.
