Chapecoense goalkeeper Danilo passes away in hospital, despite initially being named as one of the survivors in the tragic air crash.

Chapecoense goalkeeper Danilo has passed away in hospital, despite initially being named as one of the survivors in the tragic air crash that occurred in Colombia.

The 31-year-old was pulled from the wreckage of the aircraft, which came down in a mountainous area outside Medellin at 10.15pm local time on Monday night and is believed to have claimed the lives of 76 people.

Alongside teammate Alan Ruschel, Danilo was rushed to hospital after the recovery team reached the wreckage, but he has since passed away after losing his battle in hospital.

Reports in Brazil, however, have claimed that Danilo was able to speak to his wife before passing on.

The goalkeeper had been with the Brazilian club since 2014, making 66 appearances in all competitions.
