Result: Kosovo claim first Olympic gold

Judoka Majlinda Kelmendi claims Kosovo's first ever gold medal at an Olympic Games.

Kosovo have claimed their first gold at an Olympic Games as judoka Majlinda Kelmendi took top honours in the women's -52kg in Rio.

The country is making its debut at the Games after being formally recognised by the International Olympic Committee in 2014, eight years after the country declared its independence from Serbia.

Kelmendi, 25, who represented Albania at London 2012, collapsed to the ground in tears when the clock expired to confirm her victory over Italy's Odette Giuffrida.

Bronze in the category went to Misato Nakamura of Japan and Russia's Natalia Kuziutina.

Meanwhile, unseeded Italian Fabio Basile picked up his country's first gold as he claimed a surprise victory over An Baul of South Korea in the men's -66kg category.
