The Australian, who has won on the European Tour twice in his career, recovered from his second-hole bogey by scoring three birdies on the front nine.

Dodt continued to look comfortable around the Beau Champs course as he hit consecutive birdies on the 10th and 11th holes, and after dropping a shot on the 14th, the 30-year-old responded with a birdie and an eagle.

Rashid Khan and Siddikur Rahman are the closest challengers to Dodt as they carded four-under-par 68s, while defending champion George Coetzee sits five shots off the pace after a one-under round.
